We use the word minority like it’s a demographic fact.
We say underrepresented groups like it’s a charitable aside.
But what if we told you those words are not just outdated — they’re profoundly inaccurate?
Let’s be clear: when we talk about The Pillars, we are referring to the real-world majority of humanity.
- People of Color (84%)
- Indigenous peoples (6.2%)
- All women and girls (50%)
- The full LGBTQ2I+ and Queer spectrum (15%)
- Neurodiverse thinkers (20%)
- People with disabilities (16%)
- Migrants and first-generation immigrants (15%)
- Youth, especially those under 18 (30%)
These groups — often fragmented by systems designed to divide — collectively represent over 98% of the global population. That’s not a minority. That’s not underrepresented. That’s the world.
So why do we keep calling them something else?
Language As Misdirection
The words minority and underrepresented are not neutral. They are tools of misdirection — framing vast global realities as marginal exceptions. They center a narrow slice of humanity (often Western, white, male, over 35, wealthy) as the unspoken default, and they ask everyone else to aspire, assimilate, or wait their turn.
When the statistical majority of the world is described as "non-dominant," we are not dealing with a demographic truth. We’re dealing with a power distortion — one that turns global populations into sidebars while a fraction of the world holds the microphone.
But numbers don’t lie.
Power structures do.
Language helps them do it.
A New Word for a New Reality
That’s why we use the word Pillars.
Because pillars don’t beg for inclusion.
They hold the whole thing up.
The Pillars are not defined by deficit or lack. They are not waiting to be saved. They are not peripheral. They are central. And they’ve always been central — to culture, to labor, to creativity, to knowledge systems, to resistance, and to every form of life-affirming innovation we’ve ever known.
Calling them minorities is more than a semantic error. It’s a system-level lie that helps justify their ongoing exclusion from representation, ownership, lawmaking, technology, governance, media, capital, and infrastructure.
If Democracy Means Anything, It Starts Here
If we’re serious about a global future — a real global future, not just global trade — then the Pillars are the beginning and end of that vision.
If we claim to believe in democracy, how can we justify a world where the demographic majority has the least access to voice, power, rights, and recognition?
It doesn’t make sense.
Not morally.
Not mathematically.
Not structurally.
This isn’t about “helping the voiceless.”
This is about amplifying the silenced majority.
When the Pillars Unite
The brilliance of The Pillars is not just in their size. It’s in their shared experience of being misnamed, miscast, and underestimated. When The Pillars unite — across disciplines, across borders, across industries — they don’t just ask for a seat at the table. They rebuild the entire foundation.
Together, The Pillars can and will:
- Rewrite global media narratives
- Build new educational models
- Innovate inclusive technologies
- Decentralize power
- Reclaim cultural ownership
- Shift law, economics, and governance toward justice
This is not wishful thinking. It’s already happening. But to accelerate it, we have to start with the words. Because the words we use shape the worlds we build.
Language is Infrastructure
When we stop calling 98% of the world a “minority,” we realign our maps.
We stop building systems of saviorism and start investing in sovereignty.
We stop designing for the exception and start designing for the truth.
So the next time you hear “minority,” ask: minority of what?
And the next time you hear “underrepresented,” ask: by who?
